7 Days

The next idea I had was the theme of how God created the world in seven days. It relates to numbers because the abstract images I will take will represent the number of the day it was done on; e.g. light being the first day. I got this information from http://christianity.about.com/od/biblestorysummaries/p/creationstory.htm. The photo shoot links in Sam Kaplan's techniques of using still life to represent something and Chris Jordan's technique of creating abstract photos.
As I was not in a studio, the lighting wasn't bright so Annabelle Breaky wasn't linked in with this shoot.

So according to the source, on the first day God created day and night. I am unable to show both of these in one photo so I decided on showing the day as that is the first thing he did. I chose to represent this by taking photos of a light bulb. I took a photo of it close up so it looked quite abstract.
I used an aperture of F/18 and a shutter speed of 1/15 sec because the light from the bulb meant I had quite a bit of light coming through the lens, and I needed a narrow depth of field to show the light inside the bulb.
The colours are neutral so it creates a warm, soft atmosphere which suits the theme of God well as you tend to associate religion with protection.
I would improve this image by removing the distraction in the background, or just getting closer to the inside of the bulb.

On the second day God created the sky so I took a photo of it.
I had the composition so the clouds were in the top right corner to create the rule of thirds in order to attract the eye.
There was a lot of light but it was natural so I had to use an aperture of F/11 and a shutter speed of 1/80 sec. The textures are all soft and fluffy, and the colours are bright so this keeps the soft atmosphere.

On the third day God created the land, waters and vegetation so I decided on taking photos of the water as it was the easiest to take photos of. I chose to show this photo because it looks abstract. You are unable to see at first that this is water because it looks like a blurred circle when really its the water; it just looks different so I like it.
I used an aperture of F/13 and a shutter speed of 1/125 sec because a lot of light was shining on it but I needed a narrow depth of field to capture the textures.
The colours are still very bright with white and a hint of silver so it continues the soft theme.
Despite the image looking different, people may feel it just looks blurry so I would improve this image by taking photos of water in other ways (e.g. water pouring).

The sun, moon and stars were created on the fourth day but it was really hard to take photos of these things so I decided on using star stickers instead as it still represents it.
The composition follows the rule of thirds because one of the stars is in the top left corner so your eye is attracted to it.
I used an aperture of F/11 and a shutter speed of 1/125 sec because I had a lot of light shining on it so I only needed a narrow depth of field to show the detail.
The colours are gold and blue which are all very bright; this keeps the colourful, soft theme.
I would improve this image by attempting harder to take photos of the real things because this doesn't match the other photos of the real objects.

The fifth day was when God created animals, and to represent this I took a close up of my dog to show an animal, while keeping the question of which animal it is.
The image kind of follows the rule of thirds as one of the eyes fits in the bottom left area which attracts your attention.
I used an aperture of F/8 and a shutter speed of 1/4 sec because I was in a dark room so I needed to allow a lot of light through so it wasn't too dark, and I needed a narrow depth of field to capture the detail of the fur.
The colours are brown and black, but it's a very light brown so it still keeps the softness of the theme.
To improve this image I would change the angle so there wasn't as many gaps as there are at the bottom.

On the sixth day God created a man and woman, Adam and Eve. To represent this I decided on photographing a man and woman holding hands to keep the abstract genre.
I used an aperture of F/11 and a shutter speed of 1/20 sec because the natural lighting meant I had to allow time for it to get through the lens, and I wanted a narrow depth of field to capture the detail.
The colours are neutral due to the skin, and there is also a hint of blue from the nail varnish which doesn't ruin the image as it is still light.
I would improve this image by getting closer to make it more abstract and to remove the distractions in the background.

The seventh day is the day of rest as God had finished creating the world. To represent this by taking a photo of pillows as you tend to rest on them. I took it close up to keep the abstract feel to it, but it is still difficult to realise what it is.
I used an aperture of F/11 and a shutter speed of 1/10 sec because the natural light meant I needed to allow a lot of it through the lens, and I needed a narrow depth of field to show the texture of the pillows.
The colour in the image is just brown, which doesn't really represent rest very well, but it does match the previous photos so this isn't a problem.
I don't feel it represents rest that well in terms of God, so I would improve this image by taking a photo of a church instead as I feel that is more associable.
