Annabelle Breaky

To help inspire my ideas I started looking for photographers. I hope to use their techniques as inspiration on what I could do in my own work.

After looking around I couldn't find photographers who took photos of things relating to numbers, so I decided to look for photographers who use techniques I like.
I had the idea of doing some still life work so I wanted to find a photographer who did this type of photography. My teacher provided a list of still life photographers who she thought would be helpful, and Annabelle Breaky stood out to me. I looked at her 'about me' page on her blog and found that she has a passion of using lighting on 'pretty things'.
All her photos were brightly lit and all had a theme; e.g. Lifestyle, Meat, Poultry. She also used quite a lot of bright colours as her background as well, or had it linking to the theme. I like colour co-ordination so seeing a photographers use that technique suited me so I will use Annabelle's work for inspiration.

This first image of the vintage themed cakes was a favourite of mine as it was the typical colours you'd expect at a tea party. Her bright lighting made all the work seem bright and exciting so it's definitely a good thing to use.

The composition of this image is all over the place so your eye doesn't know where to look; I feel this makes it exciting as there is so much to look at, but could also be a disadvantage to those who prefer to have a specific thing to look at.
I love the bright colours of the pinks and greens as they all link together well so it looks great as one image; nothing looks out of place.
The textures were also well thought out as all the plates and objects were the same hard texture, and the cakes were all creamy and fluffy to help create contrast.
This image makes me feel really happy as it makes me think of how back in the day that is how they'd lay out a tea party.

I was also amazed by the iPod image she created because I found it very creative how she used the iPod products to make it look like a flower.
The bright background gave it a sense of character so I am going to respond to this to see if it's a technique I want to use.
My eye is drawn to the first red 'flower' as it strikes out to me because of it's colour being brighter than the others, and the composition of it being at a higher level than the others.
The colours were all very bright which gave it a soft textured look even though the objects used were hard. I hope that maybe I could create that effect in my response.
This gives me a playful mood because it's all colourful and fun to look at, and it reminds me of summer which associates with laughter and play.
